100% Home Financing For America’s Finest

James K.M. Moniz

BANK OF HAWAII

has been serving the military community for over 75 years and was the official depository for the United States Navy in 1942, according to James K.M. Moniz, executive vice president and manager of Bank of Hawaii’s Mortgage Banking Division. “With Military Appreciation Month and Memorial Day celebrated in May, we are reaffirming our commitment to provide Hawaii’s service members and families with all the great benefits of VA Loans,” he said.

Moniz added that with a limited supply of housing inventory on the island and the continual increase in the median home price, the Veterans Administration (VA) Loan program is a great resource for veterans hoping to become homeowners in Hawaii.

“In addition to 100 percent financing and no down payment, the terms of VA Loans are generally more favorable with credit requirements that are more flexible than those of conventional loans and other types of mortgage financing. VA Loans can also be refinanced to provide veterans with a mortgage at a reduced rate and lower monthly payments, should interest rates available be lower than the current one. We have the capacity and the willingness to help the military community save money every way possible,” he continued.

Moniz pointed out that Bank of Hawaii loan officers are well versed on the eligibility requirements for a VA mortgage loan and emphasized that they are available for consultation with service members and their families at Bank of Hawaii loan centers statewide and in Guam. In addition, during Military Appreciation Month, a special seminar on the benefits service members are entitled to under the VA Loan program will be offered Wednesday, May 17, from 5 to 6 p.m. at Bank of Hawaii’s Wahiawa Branch. There is no charge for the seminar and handouts are provided.

In closing, Moniz noted that any service members planning to take advantage of their VA Loan benefit should find out as soon as possible what amount they can qualify for and begin shopping for a home, where they could possibly be settled in before the school year begins.
