9th Annual NARPM Property Management Seminar “Are we having fun yet?”

We are pleased to announce that the National Association of Residential Property Managers will host its Annual Property Management Seminar Tuesday, August 19, 8:15 a.m. to 4:15 p.m. at the Japanese Cultural Center Manoa Ballroom.

Our main goal is to educate individuals who manage their own investment properties; however, those who are new to property management or even seasoned property managers looking for extra information will find this one-day event useful and informative.

We will provide each attendee with a comprehensive binder that includes samples of the latest forms and documents including the Landlord-Tenant Code, Hawaii Association of Realtors rental agreement, move-in and vacating instructions, renter’s insurance information, addenda covering pets, and more. Many private firms have given permission to reproduce their forms for the use of individuals who plan to create their own forms. Past attendees have said the binder alone was worth the cost of the seminar.

We are excited to once again have engaging speakers covering relevant topics.

Sue Savio, President of Insurance Associates, will discuss new trends in insurance for renters and owners, and how best to protect yourself and your investment.

Scott Sherley of Real Class, Inc. will detail new federal rules and definitions on comfort animals relative to landlords. He will also address Fair Housing, how to protect yourself from violations, and taking heed of discrimination laws.

Charles Wang of Hawaii ECO Project will help us understand new trends and independent investing initiatives for rentals relating to photovoltaic and other energy saving features.

Catherine Matthews, Broker-in-Charge of Callahan Realty, Ltd., will give a brief talk on the changes to the Hawaii Association of Realtors rental agreement and the new pet addendum.

Leonard Loventhal of Honolulu HomeLoans will offer ideas for financing investment properties to make your money work. He will explain 1031 tax deferred exchanges and what they can do for you.

John Hassler, supervising attorney for the Regulated Industries Complaints Office (RICO), will discuss common complaints against individuals with regard to housing and advise on how to conduct ourselves to avoid complaints and disciplinary action.

Shari S. Motooka-Higa of HomeStreet Bank will give an enlightening talk on trends in Hawaii demographics during lunch. Time will be allotted for speakers to answer questions from the audience after their presentations.

Our favorite vendors will also be participating with booths set up outside the conference room. They have great products and services to help you maintain your rental property.

The cost is $110 if you register before August 5 (otherwise $135), which covers the seminar, continental breakfast, a three course buffet lunch, and the binder. This event sells out and we have to turn people away due to space constraints. So please don’t delay your registration. Call 808-738-3105 or 808-487-9500 ext. 203 or email for more information or to register.
