Coastal Options – Southeastern Oahu – Diamond Head

The southeastern coast of Oahu, bracketed by Koko Head in the east and Diamond Head the west, claims some of Hawaii’s most desirable and valuable real estate.

Development along this approximately 10 mile stretch of scenic coastline, almost exclusively residential, includes primarily single family homes, a few townhome communities, and a cluster of highrise condominiums at the edge of Waikiki. A hotel, country club, golf course, and two private beach clubs constitute the only additional development. Numerous parks provide acres of open space along the coast and within the communities.

The first permanent or primary residences began replacing vacation cottages on beachfront lots nearly a century ago. Kamaaina families with primary homes in the valleys and on the heights were attracted by the sunny weather and clear, calm waters of Maunalua Bay. Today distinctive estates set the tone for upscale living in neighborhoods from Portlock to Kahala.

Over the years, southeast Oahu oceanfront neighborhoods have continued to reinvent themselves, retaining value despite negative market fluctuations and offering renewed opportunity for local and offshore builders, buyers, and investors.

With direct ocean frontage at the foot of Diamond Head, Kuu Makana is an exclusive residential enclave offering privacy, security, spectacular views, and a luxurious lifestyle. Currently available is Residence C, a spacious 3,536-square-foot, second floor corner unit offered by Coldwell Banker Pacific Properties Realtor John Peterson CRS at $6,975,000.

The former Renton estate, the 29,434-square-foot property was developed by the owner in 1982 into four luxurious townhomes designed by Architects Hawaii. “This unit was originally reserved by the developer for their personal home,” Peterson said.

Residence C includes three bedrooms with ocean and garden views, three-and-a-half custom designed baths, an open kitchen, main living area that flows seamlessly to the lanai, and a large den/office.

The covered lanai adds 674 square feet of living space and opens up the expansive interior to an unobstructed view of the ocean to the horizon.

Peterson, a luxury real estate specialist, said Kuu Makana at Diamond Head is a rare oceanfront value, due to both its choice location and exquisite interior detailing.

“Abundant use of Hawaiian koa wood throughout, coffered ceilings, crown moldings, designer lighting, custom cabinetry and shelving, a coral clad fireplace, imported marble in the spa-like master bath, and ceramic tile flooring are just a few of the features of the well-conceived interior design plan,” Peterson said. “The expansive lanai provides an ideal space for entertaining. The kitchen and master bedroom have views of the ocean as well as the beautifully landscaped grounds. The entire property is protected from the ocean by a rock seawall with stairway access to the ocean.

Additional amenities include skylights, central air conditioning, intercom, and security system. Resident and guest parking are provided on the property which is accessed from Diamond Head Road through a landscaped courtyard.

Peterson noted that Kuu Makana at Diamond Head, located at 3165 Diamond Head Road, is within close walking distance of beaches, Kapiolani Park, tennis courts, clubs, restaurants, and Waikiki. He is showing the property by appointment and can be contacted at (808) 220-5555.
