D.R. Horton Delivers For Kauai, Big Isle

D.R. Horton Hawaii continues its long tradition of building and providing new homes for Hawaii homebuyers, with two of its latest projects aimed at future homeowners on Kauai and Hawaii Island (the Big Island).

Mary Flood, D.R. Horton Hawaii senior vice president of sales and marketing, said both projects — The New Wainani Estates on the Big Island and Ho‘oluana at Kohea Loa on Kauai — broke ground within the last two months, and together will add 201 new fee-simple residences to the state’s housing supply.

The Big Island project will comprise 50 single-family homes, being added adjacent to the existing Wainani Estates community on the slopes of Kona, at prices ranging from the mid-$500,000s to the mid-$600,000s.

On Kauai, the Ho‘oluana at Kohea Loa development, in the heart of Lihue, will provide 57 single-family homes, as well as 50 single-family condominium and 44 duplex condominium homes, with six different floor plans at prices ranging from $430,000 to $606,000 — and that is just the first phase. Ultimately the new master-planned Kauai community could include three more phases, adding up to 239 more desperately needed new homes to Hawaii’s tight housing market.

Moreover, because Ho‘oluana at Kohea Loa is being developed in partnership with the County of Kauai, which wants to help local buyers become homeowners, 40 percent of the residences will be sold as “affordable,” in compliance with the county’s affordable-housing rules.

Flood said the affordable units will be perfect for young couples just starting out, or established families with children or kupuna to care for. The development overall is close to Lihue Airport, as well as to the businesses, restaurants and retailers of downtown Lihue.

At The New Wainani Estates development, buyers have three single-story floor plans to choose from, ranging from 1,366 to 1,618 square feet. The lots range in size from 10,000 to 21,000 square feet, most with ocean views. Kona International Airport is just minutes away, as are shopping centers and schools.

Both The New Wainani Estates and Ho‘oluana at Kohea Loa were designed by KY International, of Honolulu, which, Flood noted, D.R. Horton has “partnered with regularly to create beautiful homes.”

At both locations, she said, the homes feature D.R. Horton’s standard 10-year structural warranty and 30-year manufacturer’s warranty on siding. They also have covered garages, rough-ins to accommodate electric vehicle charging and PV systems, solid surface kitchen and bathroom countertops, walk-in master bedroom closets, and appliances such as dishwasher, range, microwave and washer/dryer. Both communities’ floor plans offer open layouts and multiple bedrooms, perfect for island families.
