The 48-story condominium residence at 1009 Kapiolani that went to market as the Moana Vista in 2006 has been reintroduced and rebranded as The Pacifica.

Originally a development of K. C. Rainbow, the project stalled while under construction and was placed at auction. In 2009, it was purchased by San Diego developer OliverMcMillan, which completed construction with general contractor Hawaiian Dredging Construction Company in 2011.

Pacifica includes 494 one, two, and three bedroom units, seven penthouses, extensive amenities, and five levels of parking with a total of 844 resident parking spaces, plus parking for guests and commercial tenants. On the ground floor are 10,000 square feet of commercial space that includes two restaurants. The condominium residence is significantly more upscale than the model presented to the initial buyers. Prices currently range from just over $600,000 to nearly $1.5 million.

Designed by Architects Hawaii, the concrete, steel, and glass building presents a sleek, modern facade. The attractively designed secured lobby, with its high ceilings, travertine floor, seating areas, and concierge desk, is entered from Waimanu Street. Four high speed “smart” elevators are activated by residents with individual key fobs that open at the designated floor.

Pacifica features an array of recreational amenities. Located on the fifth floor are a heated swimming pool and hot tub, covered and open gathering areas, barbecue facilities, an enclosed party area with a kitchen on a terrace below the pool deck, a large, fully equipped gym, and a locker room with showers and a sauna. Two theaters with projection and sound equipment and seating are available to residents and their guests on a reservation basis. At ground level is a pet-friendly, gated landscaped area.

A penthouse apartment on the top floor is currently being offered for sale by Distinctive Homes Hawaii Realtor John Greene for $1,495,000 inclusive of 2 parking spaces. The 1,268 square foot unit includes 2 bedrooms, 2 baths, and a large open main living/dining area that flows to the kitchen. According to Greene, all main living areas and the bedrooms have spectacular views. “The large plate glass windows provide panoramic views that extend from the Pali on the west all the way to Diamond Head and Hawaii Kai to the east. The views are also amazing at night when the city lights create another kind of spectacle.”

Greene, who is a resident of Pacifica, emphasized the convenience of the Kapiolani Boulevard location. “On most evenings and weekends, we leave the car in the parking garage and walk everywhere. The beach and tennis courts at Ala Moana Park are a short walk, as are the shops and restaurants of Ala Moana Center and the Ward Centers. We also appreciate being able to walk to the Ward theaters and Blaisdell Center and not have to worry about finding a parking space. If we decide to just stay home, we can take advantage of the great recreational facilities in the building. And there are two excellent restaurants, Doraku and Chai’s, right downstairs. These days when people are increasingly concerned about getting enough exercise, a well-located condo in town could be their best option.”
