Homes for the Luxury Lifestyle
Since it was established as an up-scale resort destination three decades ago, Kapalua has continued to project an image of quality and luxury, in both its resort and residential properties.
Luxury home neighborhoods have grown up around the visitor infrastructure, which includes world class hotels and two championship golf courses that attract an international clientele and host major tournaments.
One of Kapalua’s larger private estates, located in the exclusive gated Plantation Estates community, has recently been placed on the market by Z Properties at $7,360,000. Designed by Maui architecture and design firm Kasprzycki Designs, Inc., the palatial home is situated on 6.68 acres on Honolua Ridge. It commands a spectacular 180 degree view of the ocean, coast, and neighbor islands of Molokai and Lanai.
With 4,630 square feet of interior living space, the home includes five bedrooms, five baths, a main living area with vaulted 15 foot high ceilings, dining room, state of the art kitchen, office/library, and media room. Outdoor lanais and the pool-side deck add another 1,608 square feet for outdoor dining, recreation, and entertaining. In addition to a 10 foot deep, heated Romanesque swimming pool, the recreation area includes a 21 by 8 foot spa. A 900 square foot garage provides parking for 3 cars, with space for many additional cars on the paved drive areas.
A second, smaller dwelling could potentially be built on a lower portion of the property. The approach is by a stamped concrete circular driveway leading to a dramatic entry with custom designed iron double doors. Walls of dry stacked Kapalua blue rock encircle most of the property, which is extensively landscaped with tropical plants and fruit trees.
Completed in 2008, the home was designed by Atom Kasprzycki in collaboration with the original owner, a Maui general contractor, and his wife, a specialist in Feng Shui design. “Working with an owner/builder made the process of programming and design very fluid and effortless,” Kasprzycki said. “The exterior of the home is finished with stucco and a combination of natural and composite stone. The roofing material is a slate style concrete tile. The interior is finished with natural stone, custom cabinetry and millwork, with touches of Classic and Baroque architectural elements, such as the coved and curving coffered ceilings in the living room and master bedroom, the fresco adorned quadripartite vault over the foyer, and the composite stone Tuscan and Corinthian columns used on the exterior and interior of the residence. The structure is oriented so the spectacular views can be enjoyed from all major living areas. This is a home built to last and one that can accommodate a large family as well as owners whose lifestyle involves entertaining friends and guests. ”
According to Kasprzycki, whose firm has designed 11 luxury residences in the Kapalua resort area, numerous special features and high quality finishes have been incorporated into the home. Chiseled travertine flooring is complemented by custom hardwood cabinetry and trim. The kitchen features imported stone surfaces, a unique wide basin hammered copper sink, and a Viking cooktop with a built-in wok station. A breakfast room overlooks the swimming pool. Electronic features include a security system, whole home audio system, flat panel televisions in bedrooms and the living room, and CAT 5 network wiring. Gas fireplaces are located in the living room and master bedroom. Light sconces provide dramatic lighting effects throughout the home.
Listing Realtor Jixiong Zhu, owner and principal broker of Z Properties LLC, noted that the current owners, originally from China, have occupied the home for the past two years and due to lifestyle changes have decided to place it on the market. “This is an ideal home for people looking for privacy and tranquillity,” Zhu said. “At the same time, residents can take advantage of the extensive recreational facilities of the Kapalua Club, as well as numerous shopping and dining options at both Kapalua and the nearby Kaanapali Resort. It’s a short drive to the Kapalua Airport.”
Zhu is showing the property by appointment.
