Local Real Estate Company Ready for Global Expansion
Primary Properties opened its doors in June of 2003 with just a handful of real estate agents, but with lots of hope and excitement. Headed by President and Principal Broker Kay Mukaigawa, the company expanded from one office in Downtown Honolulu to a second branch office in Tokyo, Japan in 2007 and a third in Stadium Mall, Aiea, in 2012 with an adjoining Learning Center, where workshops and seminars are held.
The original handful of agents has now grown to over 65 agents, many of whom are bilingual, which has been extremely beneficial for working with relocation and multigenerational clients when English is not their first language. For nearly 10 years, they have been the Realtors working with the State of Hawaii’s Department of Hawaiian Home Lands in assisting over 10,000 Awardees of Hawaiian descent with the purchase of their homestead property.
In 2015, Primary Properties established its LifeStyles Division that focuses on two specialized markets: seniors and affiliates. Each month, seniors are offered a free educational seminar and mini-vendor fair that provides them with up-to-date information on various housing options. The Primary Affiliate program is part of the National Employer Assisted Housing (EAH) Program, offering real estate benefits and educational classes for numerous private companies throughout Oahu and for the State’s largest labor unions, totaling over 100,000 members.
Community involvement has always been a part of the Primary Properties culture, from sponsoring numerous golf tournaments for the Muscular Dystrophy Association to participating in Aloha United Way’s kickball tournament, and its annual holiday donation drive benefiting Lanakila Meals on Wheels. The company is committed to giving back to the community and, looking forward, is expanding its outreach to also benefit Special Olympics Hawaii and the Girl Scouts of Hawaii.
Mukaigawa credits the success of the company over the years to her agents. “Our agents are the heart and soul of the company,” she said. “Their commitment and support have enabled us to thrive.” Likewise, the agents credit Mukaigawa’s vision, leadership and guidance for their individual successes.
As Primary Properties embarks on a new venture Jan. 1, it’s the perfect time for the company to reflect on the last 14 years and thank everyone who supported the staff, especially the thousands of friends and families who have trusted the Realtors with their real estate and have become part of the Primary Properties ohana.
