Military Appreciation – All Year Round At Veterans United
The month of May is celebrated nationwide as “Military Appreciation Month.”
Three years ago, in May, former U.S. Marine Tony Dias opened the Hawaii branch office of Veterans United Home Loans.
“The best way I know to show appreciation to our military for their service and their sacrifice is to help them exercise one of our basic rights as Americans, the right to own property,” Dias said.
“Even as the son of a U. S. Marine who grew up in Waianae, I was unaware of the huge advantage a VA Loan represents for service members who want to buy a home. My father never utilized this benefit and I was in the mortgage industry for several years before recognizing the buying power of the VA Loan. Once I became personally educated about the numerous benefits of this loan…which clearly offers the best terms available today in mortgage financing…I made it my personal mission to begin educating both military service members and the real estate industry in general about all aspects of the VA loan program.”
After opening his first office dedicated to VA lending in 2008, Dias initiated the VA educational seminar series. To date more than 10,000 military service members have attended classes, now presented by Dias as the branch manager of Veterans United Home Loans of Hawaii. In the two years since establishing the new affiliation, Dias has helped more than 800 Hawaii military service members and their families become successful homeowners.
“Being recruited by Veterans United Home Loans and opening the company’s first and only Hawaii branch at our headquarters in Waipio means we now have access to the resources of one of the country’s largest dedicated VA lenders. It was a perfect match since we have the same mission…we believe that if a person has worn the uniform, they deserve to own a piece of the country they defended.”
Dias now presents free educational seminars on the benefits of VA Loans – such as no downpayment, no private mortgage insurance, relaxed credit score requirements, and flexible debt to income terms – throughout Hawaii. Three seminars a month are scheduled at the Veterans United Home Loans Hawaii Educational Center in Waipio. He also presents special seminars for real estate agents, including Continuing Education classes.
Members of the firm, including Dias, donate a percentage of their earnings to the Veterans United Foundation which matches the funds to support programs and organizations that benefit military people.
Last year, the achievements of Veterans United Home Loans of Hawaii were recognized with the company’s national “Enhancing Lives Award.” Dias has also received an “Above and Beyond Award,” given to a man or woman who has worn the uniform and gone above and beyond in service to the community.
“We have been very blessed in carrying out our mission to help veterans achieve the American Dream they fought to preserve,” Dias said. “Two years ago, we had six employees…we now have 29. We were able to obtain additional space at our existing location at 94-539 Puahi Street and are now leasing the entire building. We are always available for free, no obligation personal consultations with anyone who wants to find out if they or any family member is eligible for VA loan benefits, whether to buy a new home or refinance an existing home. Please call us at 677-5626 for an appointment or more information.”
“You’ve served our country. Now let us serve you.”
-Aloha, Tony Dias
