NARPM Oahu Chapter To Present Property Management Seminar HOW TO WIN AT THE GAME OF PROPERTY MANAGEMENT New Location Announced!
The Hawaii Chapter of the National Association of Residential Property Managers will present its popular annual “Mom and Pop” seminar geared to owners who manage their own property Tuesday, August 13, from 8:15 a.m. to 4 p.m. at Dole Cannery at Alakawa and Iwilei Road. The previous location, announced earlier, was the Japanese Cultural Center. The new Dole Cannery location is the Pomaikai Ballroom on the 2nd floor.
Every year our organization holds an all-day conference to educate property owners looking to expand their knowledge and learn new techniques and laws pertaining to tenant issues. Our educational seminar will provide you with some of the tools and resources needed to successfully manage your own property, including a binder containing current property management forms.
The cost, which includes continental breakfast, buffet lunch featuring Dr. Larry Price, co-host of the Perry & Price Show on KSSK Radio, as keynote speaker, the binder, and parking is $110 for registration prior to August 2 ($135 subsequently). Past attendees have said the binder was worth the cost of the seminar; it includes the Landlord-Tenant Code, new Hawaii Association of Realtors rental agreement, move-in and vacating instructions, renter’s insurance information, and addenda covering pets, lead-based paint, house rules, and maintenance.
As a property manager for 25+ years and 2013 President of the NARPM Oahu Chapter, I have seen many changes and challenges in the business. Belonging to NARPM has been the best support system! NARPM offers the opportunity to discuss business problems with fellow members, network, and brainstorm to come up with the best solutions for tenants and owners alike.
Please join us on August 13 at Dole Cannery. Meet our friendly staff and Board of Directors as you check in at 7:45 a.m. with a cup of coffee and continental breakfast. Browse and acquaint yourselves with knowledgeable vendors who will showcase products and services to aid you in managing your properties.
Our opening session, How to Avoid Fumbles in Managing Properties, will feature Property Managers Lurline Johnson (B) RMP, Property Profiles, who will discuss proper procedures, Cathy Matthews (B), Callahan Realty, who will conduct a discussion of the landlord-tenant relationship, and Jeremy Hunter (B), Innovative Property Management, who will give an update on new Property Management forms.
Keith Kamita, Deputy Director of Law Enforcement, Department of Public Safety, will report on medical marijuana, navigating the system, enforcement, and investigation of illegal drugs. Elizabeth Jablonski of the UH School of Entomology will discuss bedbugs and how to handle them in Hawaii’s climate.
After lunch (11:45 a.m. to 1 p.m.), sessions will continue with Kenneth Lau AAL on the Eviction Process and Jelani Madaraka, HUD Civil Rights Analyst, on the Fair Housing Law and Reasonable Accommodations. Finally, we will close with a question and answer session conducted by our panel of speakers.
