New Highrise To Offer Rental Options For Students
Hale Mahana Collegiate Apartments, a new highrise rental residence in the heart of Moiliili, is under way at 2615 S. King St., a site previously known as University Square.
The new student apartment project near the University of Hawaii at Manoa is being developed by a private partnership between Laconia Development LLC and EdR Collegiate Housing.
The 14-story structure will include 191 residential apartments designed to address the need for quality student-oriented accommodations. The project will feature a mix of one-, two-, three- and four-bedroom floor plans and a rooftop amenity area with a fitness center, outdoor terrace lounge, community kitchen, study lounges, social areas and views of Manoa Valley. The development also will include approximately 20,000 square feet of ground floor retail space and a landscaped public plaza fronting South King Street.
“We are very pleased to be partnering with EdR Collegiate Housing to bring quality, safe and modern housing options to students at college and university campuses in Honolulu,” said Paul Menzies, Laconia’s chief executive officer. “From the start, our goal has been to understand the local marketplace in order to conceive a project that enhances the neighborhood and meets the needs of the local community.”
Hale Mahana Collegiate Apartments, the first project in Hawaii by Laconia Development and EdR Collegiate Housing, is the first new construction of privately owned student-oriented apartments near the University of Hawaii at Manoa. It also offers convenient access to public transportation and easy walking or biking distances to both UH-Manoa and the Chaminade University campus.
“We are currently exploring other opportunities to build homes for working families and students in Honolulu, and look forward to opening Hale Mahana in the summer of 2018,” Menzies added.
Based in Walnut Creek, California, Laconia Development LCC develops and invests in multi-family residential and mixed-use environments with a strong focus on reinvigorating urban markets with advanced technology and aesthetics.
