Oceanfront Options

HOMES-031515-2Ninth in a series

The Gold Coast is unique among Hawaii’s oceanfront neighborhoods. It offers buyers options for oceanfront living that cannot be duplicated on any other stretch of seacoast in Hawaii.

Its upscale condominium and co-op apartments are steps away from the sandy swimming beaches of Waikiki and some of the south shore’s best surf breaks. Across Kalakaua Avenue is Kapiolani Park with picnic areas and public tennis courts. Private tennis courts are located across the park at the Diamond Head Tennis Center. The tree-lined streets at this end of Kalakaua are ideal for dog walking, biking, and jogging. Free concerts are presented regularly at the Kapiolani Park Bandstand. Close-by is the Ala Wai Golf Course, a well-maintained municipal 18-hole golf course. Also within walking distance are two private clubs with restaurants and Michel’s, a kamaaina favorite.

Although the Gold Coast is at the edge of one of the world’s most popular and populous visitor destinations, it maintains the peaceful, private ambiance of an upscale residential neighborhood.

The highrise and midrise properties that occupy this half-mile of prime real estate include (west to east) Sans Souci, Colony Beach, Colony Surf, Castle Surf, Tropic Seas, Diamond Head Beach Hotel, Diamond Head Ambassador, Diamond Head Apartments, Coral Strand, 2987 Kalakaua, Tahitienne, 3003 Kalakaua, Oceanside Manor, 3019 Kalakaua, 3056 Kalakaua, Seabreeze, and Kainalu.

Currently, two units are available in one of the most desirable of the buildings, 3003 Kalakaua. The 12-story building with only two units on each floor offers such features as guest parking, secured garage parking, secured storage units for each apartment, and a resident manager.

Apartments 3-B and 6-A, both listed by Choi International, each include two bedrooms, two baths, an open living/dining area, spacious kitchen, and family room/office that could serve as a third bedroom. Their 1,984 square foot interiors are augmented by 320 square feet of usable, covered lanai space…ideal for outdoor dining as well as savoring the spectacular, unobstructed ocean view to the horizon. It’s an ever-changing panorama of surfers riding the waves, sea turtles cruising in the clear waters, and, seasonally, whales breaching outside the reef. Sunsets are an almost nightly spectacle. As the sky darkens, the lights of Waikiki create a sparkling cityscape followed on a weekly basis by fireworks displays at the Hilton Hawaiian Village Waikiki Resort.

Designed with an open floor plan and floor to ceiling sliding glass doors between the living room and the lanai, major living areas of apartments in 3003 Kalakaua capture ocean views. Majestic Diamond Head dominates the view from the bedrooms, which face Kapiolani Park.

Listing Realtor Patricia Choi, Principal Broker of Choi International, noted that Apartment 3-B, priced at $3,075,000, and Apartment 6-A, priced at $3,998,000, have one assigned covered parking stall each and that the building has guest parking, which is rare among the Gold Coast condos. The building is pet-friendly.

Choi is showing the units by appointment.
