Oceanfront Options – The Leeward Coast – Makaha
Oceanfront property – whether it meets the sea with sandy beach or rocky shoreline – is by nature scarce, and consequently commands premium price points. Currently some of the best options for buyers and investors whose priority is ocean frontage can be found on Oahu’s Leeward Coast…and a full range of property styles priced from the mid $300,000s to just under $2 million is available. An assortment of beachfront condos, both fee simple and lease-hold, are utilized variously as full time residences, vacation homes, and rentals. Upscale single family homes, however, are in short supply. One of the first oceanfront subdivisions with large lots intended for development as primary residences was undertaken in the Makau neighborhood in the 1950s.
Orion Barels (S), a Fine Homes Premier Specialist and sales agent with Locations, has recently listed a home at 84-101 Makau Street, utilized by the owners as their own personal retreat.
The two story, four bedroom, three bath home occupies a 27,521 square foot lot overlooking the Waianae coast with sweeping ocean and mountain views, sunrises, and sunsets.
Barels noted that this rare Makaha offering includes two separate subdivided lots being sold together. One parcel includes a home; the other is a prime, undeveloped ocean-front property. Both have a continuous rock seawall fortifying their shoreline and, together, have 163 linear feet of ocean frontage. The indoor-outdoor home features a large kitchen with granite counters and maple cabinets, travertine finished bathrooms, and an additional kitchenette on the lower level. The landscaped property also includes a swimming pool and a garage that can accommodate two vehicles.
“This home is just a half mile to white sand beaches at Keaau Beach Park and the world famous surf of Makaha Beach,” Barels said. “It is one of the last oceanfront homes in Makaha before the Beach Park, Makua Valley and caves, the spectacular beaches at the end of the road at Yokohama Bay, and Kaena Point State Park. This area is just a short jaunt from the subject property and is arguably some of the most beautiful unspoiled countryside on Oahu, unadulterated by development for miles, and gorgeous turquoise waters with great scuba diving and fishing, most notably the Makaha caverns, one of the most popular dives on Oahu with superb lava tubes and sea life.” He added that also notable about the area is the planned $300 million redevelopment of the former Makaha resort.
Barels is offering the property at $1,950,000 and showing it by appointment.
