Oceanfront Options – The North Shore – Sunset Point
By the time the winter big wave surfing competitions conclude at the famous beaches of Oahu’s North Shore, visitors and competitors from all parts of the world will have been exposed to the energy and ambiance of this unique part of Hawaii. Many have purchased their own personal “piece of paradise,” contributing to the diversity of the North Shore communities.
North Shore real estate has continued to appreciate dramatically over the past three decadess. Homes along the stretch of coastline between Kahuku and Kaena Point range from “beach shacks” to multi-million dollar estates and condominium developments. Kamaaina families have continued to maintain both primary and secondary residences on the North Shore, and companies such as Billabong, Hurley, and Volcom have purchased properties in choice beachfront locations. Commercial development is concentrated primarily in Haleiwa Town, where several new commercial projects have just been completed. Despite the extensive media exposure and the increase in upscale residential real estate development, the North Shore of Oahu continues to resist excesses of urban encroachment and retain its country atmosphere.
The small gated community of Sunset Point comprises a score or more of single-family residences built along the wide sandy beach that stretches from Velzyland to the north to Sunset Beach and beyond to the south.
The largest property among them is a three-story, five-bedroom, three-bath home on 13,488 square feet of fee simple, R-5-zoned land, currently offered by Coldwell Banker Pacific Properties for $3,200,000.
“It’s the largest home and lot in the community,” said listing real estate agent Michael Shower, who this month closed on the largest recorded sale of a North Shore home — a $12 million luxury residence on a 26,805-square-foot oceanfront lot near Haleiwa.
Shower said the Sunset Point home is in “one of the most idyllic oceanfront locations on the North Shore, within walking distance of two of the best surf spots — Sunset and Velzyland — and with beautiful ocean views.”
Situated right on the beach, it is buffered from the main North Shore thoroughfare of Kamehameha Highway by seven or eight homes.
The 3,426-square-foot structure comprises two separate living areas, which makes it ideal as a multi-generational home or for entertaining guests, plus more than 1,000 square feet of covered lanai.
Amenities include granite countertops, wood and marble flooring, blinds, ceiling fans, kitchen and laundry appliances, split A/C, an intercom system, and photovoltaic panels.
In addition to a twocar garage, a storage area provides space for surfboards and watercraft.
Built in 1990 and remodeled in 1995, the home is in excellent condition and available for showing. For more information or to make an appointment, call Shower at 375-4811 or email firstname.lastname@example.org.
