Oceanfront Options – The Windward Coast – Kailua Beach

Oahu’s Windward Coast is 34 scenic miles extending from Kahuku Point in the north to Makapuu Point in the south.

The Windward Oahu region itself is unrivaled in its natural beauty and dramatic contrasts – from its pristine white-sand beaches washed by turquoise waters to the verdant vertical cliffs of the Koolau Mountain Range.

In 1972, Kuilima, now Turtle Bay, opened on coastal lands where the North Shore morphs into the Windward Coast. Mauka lands in the area have generally remained undeveloped, with the exception of ongoing projects of the Mormon Church.

The coast’s most prominent geographic feature, Mokapu Peninsula, site of one of Hawaii’s largest military installations, forms the southern boundary of Kaneohe Bay. Marine and oceanographic research facilities are located here, as well as at Makapuu to the south.

Residential properties along this coast range from country cottages to large estates, apartment buildings, townhomes, and condominiums. The area’s two largest communities, Kaneohe and Kailua, continue to grow, with real estate values surpassing price points for properties in some of southeast Oahu’s most upscale neighborhoods.

A classic, Kailua beach estate with a land area of 22,617 square feet and 97 linear feet of ocean frontage has been listed by Realtor Rita Wong of Rita Wong Realty at $8,588,000. Located on Kai Nani Place, in one of Kailua’s older, established neighborhoods, the spacious four bedroom, three bath main home with 4,212 interior square feet is augmented by a patio and courtyard with a total of 1,858 square feet. Most main living areas overlook spectacular views of the picturesque bay, offshore islands, and coast-line. A permitted guest house on the property provides an additional bedroom, full bath, and kitchen.

A large heated swimming pool, patio, and small courtyard surrounded by tropical gardens and mature trees create an ideal venue for outdoor dining and entertaining. The landscaped property, which is fenced and gated for privacy, also includes a two-car garage and gated driveway with parking for up to five more cars and space for a boat.

Wong noted that the home was updated in 2016, and that 48 PV panels & an irrigation sub meter were added, lowering electricity costs. Some furnishings and included in the sales price. She is showing the home by appointment and at open houses.
