Pohakala to be last increment of new homes at Mehana
D.R. HORTON has opened sales for the final increment of its 1,000-home Mehana community in Kapolei. Pohakala Phase One consists of 88 multi-family residences, including both market-rate townhomes and the popular live/work units. According to D.R. Horton senior vice president of sales Mary Flood, sales were launched Nov. 1 and 10 homes have already been sold. Units are presently available only to owner/occupants on a lottery basis.
Twoand three-bedroom units, ranging in size from 1,324 to 1,933 square feet, are priced from the high $400,000s for the market-rate townhomes; all come with two parking spaces, some with garages. Each unit is equipped with a range, refrigerator, washer, dryer, microwave and window blinds.
The live/work units, one of the most popular home styles, are two-story structures consisting of a main living area upstairs and a downstairs space that can be utilized by the owner either for their business or as an Ohana unit. These “Flex Homes” are priced in the $500,000s.
Pohakala is within walking distance of Kapolei Commons, Mehana dog park, Mehana Activities Center and Hokulei Elementary School.
“The school, which opened in 2015, is a wonderful addition to the neighborhood,” Flood said. “It allows parents to send their children out the door to a school within walking distance right in the neighborhood, just as they did many years ago. Since most of the students are from the Mehana community, they get to know the kids next door and form new friendships. This is a state-of-theart school with all the latest technology and an exceptional education program. Pohakala is the final community in the Mehana master plan, and so (it offers) the last chance to purchase a home so close to this brand new school.”
Flood pointed out that Mehana also offers a wealth of recreational amenities. The Mehana Activities Center includes a 2,900-square-foot swimming pool and multipurpose rooms for parties and meetings. Sundial Park, a playground designed especially for toddlers and small children, includes a covered play structure for sliding and climbing. Still under construction is The Rail Trail, a walking and biking path around the entire perimeter of the community.
An 18,500-square-foot off-leash dog park, open to residents every day from 7 a.m. to 7 p.m., includes separate areas for small and large dogs, as well as benches and gathering places where owners can relax and mingle.
Flood added that the Mehana development also comprises commercial and retail space, providing opportunities for businesses to locate in a fresh, new area.
