Realtors Continue Support For Hawaii Opera Theatre
Realtors for Opera celebrate their 14th anniversary during this 2016-2017 season of Hawaii Opera Theatre productions. Members of the group, who attended the VIP reception and dress rehearsal for “Il Trovatore,” presented May 20, 22, and 24, are shown at the Blaisdell Concert Hall.
The 2016-2017 season will offer Puccini’s “La Boheme” October 14, 16, and 18, Previn’s “Streetcar Named Desire” January 27, 29, and 31, Heggie’s “Three Decembers” March 24, 25, and 26, and Offenbach’s “The Tales of Hoffmann” April 21, 23, and 25. Performances will be at the Concert Hall, with the exception of “Three Decembers,” which will be staged at the Hawaii Theatre.
Realtors for Opera founder Christine O’Brien explains that, by becoming a “sponsor” of an opera, Realtors for Opera participants receive recognition in every program of every opera throughout the season, as well as on the HOT website, and are invited to a complimentary VIP reception, dress rehearsal, and backstage tour.
O’Brien noted that she was inspired by the successful support of Hawaii Opera Theatre by the Physicians Opera Group and Lawyers for Opera when she founded Realtors for Opera in 2002. Subsequently Architects for Opera, Accountants for Opera, and Dentists for Opera were formed. The Realtor group currently has 33 members.
Realtor Maggie Walker, who serves on the HOT Board of Directors with O’Brien, has also been active in promoting participation among Hawaii Association of Realtors members. “I’ve helped with the Realtor/Opera Group for some years now and this has been one of the most gratifying. Not only do we have some outstanding new members, and retained most of our former members, but we closed the season by sponsoring an opera which for many of us is a personal favorite, “Il Trovatore”…fabulous music, great drama, and such a talented cast. We are so fortunate to have opera of this quality out here in Honolulu,” Walker said.
