Design Statement

Our design mission was to create the ultimate sophisticated and serene oasis in central Kahala. Emphasis was on large volumes of space, distribution of daylight, and instinctive flow of movement throughout the residence. Various colors and textures relate to specific cubic forms adding warmth and character to the exterior facades while minimizing the impact of the grandiose size of the structure. The central courtyard and pool coupled with the open floor plan create a private indoor outdoor living experience in an urban setting.

Upon entering the residence you are instantly aware of the large volume of space and sensitive use of luxury materials. The dramatic 21 foot, two story living room opens to a loft above and also to the intimate central courtyard. From the second floor common area you have the surprise of a rare and spectacular view of the Koolau mountains in the distance as well as views into the courtyard and interior living spaces below. The kitchen is a chef’s delight with every conceivable feature and is also open to the living room, creating the ideal space for entertaining. The central stairway with its glass railings is a sculptural feature in and of itself. Master bedrooms with luxurious spa-like bathrooms are located both upstairs and downstairs. The spacious layout and high quality finishes make this Kahala home a true luxury retreat. – Jim Schmit
