A highrise condominiuim residence that offers many of the luxuries and conveniences associated with resort living, Hokua was designed with interior spaces comparable in size and layout to single family homes.

Hokua is also well located at 1288 Ala Moana Boulevard within walking distance of Ala Moana Park and Beach and the numerous shops and restaurants of Ala Moana Center and the Ward complex, which includes a multiplex theater.

Completed in 2006 on a choice four-acre site overlooking the park and ocean, the 40-story, 248-unit structure remains one of Hawaii’s most desirable condominium residences. The unique architectural plan carried out by the developers—the Kobayashi Group, the MacNaughton Group, and A&B Properties-maximizes views for all units and ensures that views would not be blocked in the future by other highrise structures. When the project went to market, approximately 80 percent of the buyers were local residents.

Hokua’s recreational facilities are exceptional. In addition to a large heated swimming pool and spa, the third floor recreation deck includes five barbecue cabanas, a well-equipped 24-hour fitness center where personal trainers are allowed, a tennis court which can be reserved for play, two dog parks, and a landscaped area with walking paths. A meeting room with kitchen facilities and five guest suites are available for use by residents with advance reservations.

Residents have a choice of swimming in their own pool or across the street at Ala Moana Beach with its reef-protected waters and often surfable waves. Jogging and bike paths encircle the 100-acre park.

Currently Hokua’s premier residence, a two-story penthouse, is offered by Choi International. With a total of 5,576 interior square feet and lanai area of 1,540 square feet, the unit includes four bedrooms and three-and-a-half baths and comes with three covered parking stalls. 180-plus degree views of the city, coast, ocean, mountains, and Diamond Head are framed by walls of glass. The seamless blending of the outdoors and the indoors and sense of spaciousness are enhanced by high ceilings. Multiple entertaining and lounging areas include a 2,800 square foot enclosed second-story, private rooftop deck with an open-air Jacuzzi and outdoor shower.

High-quality interior finishes and detailing include lighting by Hiram Banks of Banks/Ramos Architectural Lighting Design in San Francisco, a Lutron lighting system, Swarovski crystal chandelier in the dining room, motorized window shades, a projector and four-by-seven foot. drop-down movie screen with surround sound in the living room, a Sonos wireless sound system, custom cabinets and doors, wide plank reclaimed cherrywood flooring from New England, Virgin New Zealand wool carpet in the master suite, Berber carpet in the guest bedrooms and den, and Travertine flooring on the upper level.

The main kitchen, equipped with top-of-the-line appliances and a dumbwaiter, includes a dining bar and walk-in pantry with 100-bottle wine refrigerator. Seafoam green granite counters are complemented by a Peruvian glass tile back-splash. The upstairs kitchen is also equipped with top-of-the-line appliances, built-in keg and dispenser, and custom teak cabinets. The elegant master suite includes a spa bath finished with white marble and Peruvian glass tile, a shower room, and soaking tub with a view of Diamond Head.

The penthouse is listed at $35,888,000 and shown by appointment by Choi International Principal Broker Patricia Choi CCIM, CIPS.
