Waikiki – A neighborhood, a community, a “city within a city,” one of the most enduringly successful resort destinations in the world and 3.4 square miles of some of its most valuable real estate.

At any given time, the population of Waikiki is a mix of transient visitors, part-time residents, and full time residents, both owner occupants and renters. While “sun, sand, and surf” may have been the initial dynamic in the evolution of Waikiki as a world-class resort, the ongoing development of luxury hotels and condominium residences, together with trendy shops and restaurants, continue to move Waikiki in a more upscale direction.

However, the pricey boutiques that line Kalakaua Avenue may be all Waikiki’s main thoroughfare has in common with Manhattan’s Fifth Avenue…surfboard-toting pedestrians in bathing suits remind visitors that Hawaii’s lifestyle is basically casual and ocean-oriented.

Essentially choosing Waikiki as a primary residence is making a choice for a high-rise lifestyle with access to resort amenities, which are always close-by and often on the premises. Although there are still lowrise and midrise structures scattered throughout the area, and even a few single family residences, they are few and far between.

Waikiki condominium buyers have numerous options to consider based on their personal lifestyle and financial objectives. Variations from one residence to another include terms of occupancy, limitations on renting, and availability of rental management, as well as standard common area management services. Some buildings are zoned for commercial as well as residential use. Condotel is a classification with its own set of rules and guidelines, and these properties often offer an extensive menu of amenities.

Century 21 All Islands-Waikiki Realtor Megumi Fujioka is a specialist in high-end properties in Waikiki and elsewhere in Honolulu. The fee simple condo currently listed by Megumi Fujioka is a corner/end unit on the 36th fl oor, a Trump Level. Its 2,040 square foot interior is augmented by 147 square feet of lanai space.
