Leeward Options – Makaha

Located in Makaha Valley at the foot of the Waianae Mountains is the Leeward Coast’s newest residential subdivision, the Cottages at Mauna Olu. The 26-acre development is a singlefamily condominium community located within the 170-acre gated community of Maunaolu Estates.

Unlike Maunaolu Estates, which was initially marketed as country-zoned vacant lots in the 1980s, the Cottages at Mauna Olu is an offering of house/lot packages. When completed, the Cottages at Mauna Olu will be a neighborhood of 118 homes with a recreation center including a fi tness room, kitchen, barbecue area, and pool. A project of Stanford Carr Development, The Cottages at Mauna Olu includes homes with 1,302 to 1,935 square feet of interior living space and lots ranging from 4,350 to nearly 18,000 square feet.

Seven different one and two story models, all double wall, with three to four bedrooms and one unique fl oorplan with an attached dwelling unit, are available. All homes have nine-foot ceilings, sheet vinyl fl ooring or carpeting, crushed glass stone countertops in the kitchen and baths, enclosed two-car garages, six-foot backyard fences, and ocean or mountain views. Three tiers of appliance packages are offered. Prices range from $650,000 to $850,000 fee simple.

Sales are being handled by Pacifi c Island Realty, which maintains an offi ce on the site open Tuesday through Sunday from 10 a.m. to 5 p.m. Phase One is now selling with 17 homes currently available and two models open. Construction is expected to commence soon. The neighborhood is Resort zoned so short term vacation rentals are permissible.

“The Cottages at Mauna Olu is a unique project,” said Pacifi c Island Realty sales agent Travis Palmer (RA), a resident of Leeward Oahu and specialist in Leeward properties.

“It offers the quiet solitude of the country, yet city conveniences are only about 25 minutes away at Kapolei… Honolulu can be reached in an hour. Right here in the valley are world-class hiking trails and an 18-hole golf course. A mile-long sandy beach is just a fi ve-minute drive down the road. The mountain, valley, and ocean views are spectacular…particularly when the waterfalls are running and the surf is up at the famous Makaha surfi ng beach. Mauna Olu would be a great weekend home and vacation retreat for those whose primary residence is in the city…plus the zoning allows for short term rental, which is an option for owners when they are not occupying the home.”
