Leeward Options – Sea Country

Sea Country, encompassing approximately 120 acres at Maili, is the Waianae Coast’s only masterplanned community. Originally a project of the Lusk Company called Lokelani, the subdivision was acquired by D. R. Horton in 1992, renamed, developed by D. R. Horton – Schuler Homes over a period of 20 years, and now includes eight small individual neighborhoods. All homes sold out over a period of 15 years as the development advanced incrementally.

In addition to single family detached homes and duplexes, the community also includes an 11-acre park with a baseball diamond, football fi eld, and basketball courts, a playground, a fully gated 1/4–acre dog park, the Sea Country Commercial Center, a general store, the Sea Country Recreation Center and swimming pool, and Keiki Day Care Center. The development has historically attracted a varied mix of buyers… young families, many of them fi rst time home buyers, retirees, and military. Once regarded as isolated, Sea Country gathered momentum with the growth of the city of Kapolei, which is about a ten minute drive; also about ten minutes away are the recreational amenities of the Ko Olina Resort.

“For people who love the sea and ocean sports, this is a great place to live,” said Leeward Oahu specialist and long-time resident Travis Palmer, a Realtor with Pacifi c Island Realty. “The famous Makaha surfi ng beach is just up the highway, and the Waianae Coast is known for its sport fishing. There are several golf courses close-by, and the community itself incorporates numerous recreational facilities. “As you drive in from H-1 to Farrington Highway, you will be amazed by the breathtaking view of the Waianae mountain range in the distance. Then you will notice the well-kept lawns and gardens, residents out jogging, riding bikes, walking with their dogs…maybe there will be a potluck block party going on in one of the neighborhoods. Sea Country is truly a family-oriented neighborhood.”

Palmer has recently listed a two story, three bedroom, two bath home in the first Sea Country neighborhood, Palekai, which was completed in 2004. The well-maintained home is 1,363 square feet and includes an extra living space on the second floor, which can serve as a den or office, as well as a bedroom with a lanai and an ocean view. Both the interior and exterior have been recently repainted. Flooring is wood laminate in the main living areas and tile in the bathrooms; bedrooms are carpeted. The kitchen includes GE appliances. Other features include a solar water heating system and central air conditioning. In addition to an enclosed two-car garage, the fenced property includes a grassy lawn and long driveway that can accommodate an additional four vehicles.

“The Keiki Corner pre-school and the park are just a short walk from the home,” Palmer said. “Also a great hiking area, the Maili Pill Box, which has become our own west side Diamond Head, is less than a mile from the back of the development. However, probably the greatest advantage of living at Sea Country is the sea itself…the home we are offering is literally a 10 to 15 minute walk from the beach, which is sandy and calm enough for swimming most of the year, and surfable waves are generally breaking on the outside reef.”

Offered at $545,000, the home is located at 87-1102 Oheohe Street. For more information or to arrange a showing, contact Travis C. Palmer (RA) at 808-780-1670.
