Live in the heart of Waikiki, affordably

The year 2020 is off to a bright start as Lilia Waikiki, the first new rental apartment community built in Waikiki in decades, prepares to hold a housing lottery for its first set of affordable housing units to be completed this year.

Known as the Kanekapolei Collection, 53 beautifully renovated, one- and two-bedroom rentals with air conditioning will be priced affordably for Hawaii residents earning less than 80 percent of the area median income ($67,500 per individual, $77,150 per couple, and $96,400 for a family of four). The units are part of three low-rise apartment complexes located across from the planned Lilia Waikiki high-rise residential tower at Kanekapolei Street and Kuhio Avenue.

“We’re committed to addressing Hawaii’s housing shortage and have made it a priority to deliver Lilia Waikiki’s affordable units early on to meet the needs of local residents,” said Kris Hui, vice president of mixed-use development at Brookfield Properties. “The units in the Kanekapolei Collection will be a part of Lilia Waikiki’s vibrant rental community. Those who work in Waikiki will have the opportunity to live close by, drastically lessening the burden of commuting and giving them more time to enjoy doing the things they love,” Hui added.

LOTTERY APPLICATIONS NOW AVAILABLE

The Kanekapolei Collection Collection at Lilia Waikiki will be rented to residents based on a housing lottery process. Online applications are now available at liliawaikiki.com/kanekapoleicollection and will be accepted, in person, beginning Jan. 13 at the Kanekapolei applicant gallery and leasing office on the second floor lobby of Ohana Waikiki East by Outrigger (150 Kaiulani Ave.). From Jan. 13 to Feb. 14, interested residents may also pick up an application at the Kanekapolei applicant gallery and leasing office.

Completed applications, along with a $25 application fee per applicant, are due in person at the Kanekapolei applicant gallery and leasing office by Feb. 14. Available units will be assigned via a lottery selection event starting on Feb. 24.

“These units will provide more than 50 individuals and families with new homes in the revitalized Kuhio District, right across the street from shops, services and Waikiki Market, Waikiki’s only full-service local grocery store,” said Hui.

“As the first rental development built in Waikiki in decades, Lilia Waikiki is a meaningful project for Brookfield. Lilia’s affordable units will remain affordable for the next 30 years, creating a more sustainable, long-term approach to meeting housing needs,” Hui continued.

SPACIOUS, MODERN UNITS

The Kanekapolei Collection preserves the existing low-rise buildings along Kanekapolei Street. The exterior buildings have been refreshed and redesigned and all units have been fully renovated. One-bedroom units average 500 square feet and two-bedroom units average 900 square feet.

Bright and breezy, each pet-friendly unit is equipped with air conditioning, modern fixtures and luxury vinyl flooring, plus a spacious lanai. Additional amenities include on-site laundry facilities and bike storage, giving residents access to everything they need close by.
